Dragon Boat Races on Flathead Lake
The first annual Dragon Boat Races on Flathead Lake are now history. This short highlight reel shows dozens of teams striving to do their best and competing with others to raise money for worthy charitable causes. The community really turned out with more than 3,000 people in attendance.
New in 2012, Flathead Lake will be hosting the first “Montana Dragon Boat Festival”. Over 1,000 people are expected to participate in the races with more than 50, 22-person boats scheduled to face off for a 500-meter race. Each boat holds 20 people rowing and two additional people, one manning the rudder and one drumming the beat for the rowers.
Dragon Boat racing is more than 2,300 years old and is observed in 64 countries and believe it or not, the eighth fastest growing sport in the world.
